With new construction happening all over the metroplex, high water pressure has become a serious problem for DFW homeowners. Learn how to identify it and protect your tankless system.
This Is a Non-Warranty Issue
High water pressure damage to your filter housing or tankless components is not covered under any warranty. The filter housing cannot be replaced until a PRV is installed or replaced. Maximum water pressure to a house should be around 75 psi. Most homes with this problem have 150 to 200 psi at night.

New Construction Raises City Pressure
City water pump stations must increase water pressure to reach newly completed construction sites throughout the metroplex. This occurs late evening or early morning hours when most people are not using water.
This is a problem for homes with an old or missing PRV (pressure-reducing valve). City water supply pressure is typically 125–200 psi. The water pressure entering a home must not exceed 80 psi.
How to Check Your Pressure
Purchase a water pressure gauge from Home Depot. Connect it to a hose bib and monitor it over 24 to 48 hours. The red needle indicates the highest water pressure reading.
Safe range: under 75 psi
Most problem homes: 150–200 psi at night
PRV Location
Where Is Your PRV?
If you have a PRV, it should be located in the front yard flower bed inside a plastic valve box. If you don't have a valve box in the flower bed, your house was built without a PRV.
Since 2015, all new homes have been required to have a PRV. If your home was built before 2015, it may not have one.
Culligan Filter Housing Warning
All Culligan water filter housings are designed for a maximum water pressure of 100 psi. When pressure exceeds 100 psi, the housing will crack. This is not covered under any warranty.
The filter housing cannot be replaced until a PRV is installed or replaced.
